“Hey Alexa, how’s my web traffic?”

This will be a question we’re all asking by 2020. In January of 2018, TechCrunch reported 39 million Americans (16% of the population) have a Smart Speaker (Amazon Echo, Google Home, Apple HomePod, etc.)

While data shows that 66% use the devices for entertainment like playing music, telling jokes, playing games, getting news and weather or sports scores – the evolution of the use of these devices will disrupt the business world the same way social media has disrupted the business and particularly marketing and branding world over the past 10 years (see Dude PerfectGary Vaynerchuk, and Champion – yes the brand we all remember from KMart – revival via Instagram.

In the same fashion users attention flocked to Facebook and Twitter in 2007, and to Instagram in 2012 (and has stayed on all three platforms), attention will continue to flock to voice activated devices – first for personal use – but then for marketing, advertising and straight up brand building and monetization by those who can build the best “skills” (voice apps).

I spend a lot of time and energy trying to get business owners and marketers to look at their Google Analytics Data for 30 minutes a month so they can learn insights to calibrate, engage and grow.

Now I’m thinking of just building something that can read the data out loud to them while they’re at their desk, driving in their car, walking into yoga or out for their morning jog.

Would you use it?

Thanks for reading, and have a great day!
